Instructor: Ken Pierce
An intensive workshop in Baroque dance (European ballroom and theatrical dance of the late 17th and early 18th centuries). Because of lingering uncertainty about the trajectory of the COVID pandemic, this year's workshop will be taught online, with movement sessions designed to accommodate small spaces and challenging floors. The emphasis will be on solo repertory, though we will also study a couple dance notated by Pierre Rameau using his "new method" of dance notation.
This workshop is designed for students who have some prior experience with Baroque dance and notation.
1:30-3:00 movement session: warmup, steps, and step sequences
3:15-4:15 lecture and discussion: notation and repertory
4:30-5:30 practical session: learning steps and step sequences from notation
Note: The schedule may be adjusted from day to day to allow for an efficient use of time and energy.
