Maire Clement, MM, soprano, is a musical entrepreneur, voice instructor, and yoga instructor in the Boston area. Maire combines her passion for classical music and yoga in her position as the “Yoga for Musicians” Instructor at the New England Conservatory. She also teaches yoga at Akasha, and Starr Yoga in Roslindale, MA. In her latest unification of yoga and singing, Maire originated a workshop titled “Finding Your Voice,” where students spend time breathing, practicing postures focused on opening up the throat chakra, learning a yogic chant and singing together. Maire Clement utilizes her expertise as a classically trained soprano, as an advanced student of Transformational Voice™, as well as her yoga training to offer a new approach to classic voice lessons. With vocal technique as the skeleton of voice lessons, Maire cultivates a safe environment to encourage her students to express themselves through the art of singing.
Maire received her Masters of Music degree in vocal performance from the University of Louisville, where she also worked as a graduate teaching assistant in both the voice and music therapy departments. She instructed music therapy majors how to sing in different genres and styles to suit their clinical aspirations. By teaching them to listen critically to the style of their model artists, her students learned how to appropriately replicate common musical genres. She also co-taught a voice class for non-music majors that focused on the basics of vocal technique and performance practices. In addition to the classroom courses, Ms. Clement taught private lessons to undergraduate music therapy majors. While in Louisville, she also taught voice students from the ages of 8-16 at the Folsom Academy of the Arts and students ranging from 8-40 years old at Guitar Center in Louisville, KY. When Maire finds her way back to her hometown of Minnesota, she teaches private lessons to members of the church choir in which she grew up singing. Throughout Minnesota, Louisville, and Boston, Maire has prepared her voice students for competitions, performances, and auditions for admittance in schools, musicals, and choirs.
As a performing artist, Maire currently works as a freelance soprano. Most recently, she hasperformed in a variety of concerts in Boston and Minnesota. In Louisville, she originated the role of Darling Donnis in a new opera titled The Final Battle for Love by Phillip Thompson with the Thompson Street Opera Company. She has also performed with the Kentucky Opera, the Lakes Area Music Festival in Minnesota, and internationally in Italy and Canada. For more information, see: maireclement.com
